Pig Pen

Check out my blogs at punchmeout.ca..

The other day I stood in line waiting for a teller at the bank. Behind the counter
were two lovely ladies, one woman was obviously very nervous.
A pen bobbed up down in her mouth, as she actively chewed the end of her pen. The other woman
was doing the same thing, until it accidentally fell from her mouth on
to the counter. She was obviously aware of what she was doing, and was a bit
embarrassed. It was amusing.

I walked up to the next available teller, and proceeded to deposit a check. The
teller gave me the transaction slip to sign. I reached for the pen, and hesitated.
There it was. The evidence was there for all to see. The official bank pen was
missing, and in its place was a blue pen with a chewed cap. Interesting, I thought.
The woman must of served a customer, and offered her pen when the bank
pen could not be found.

It is very unprofessional for a teller to chew their pen, behind the counter. It
doesn't give a very good impression to the people waiting in line, looks bad,
and is very unhygienic. If you have a habit of chewing your pen, try
chewing gum instead. It looks better then a pen bobbing up and down in front
of your face, and is allot more sanitary; however, that too can look bad.
Just don't suck your thumb like a 5 year old.

One more thing, just don't stick it anywhere, except where it belongs,
in the garbage. The next time you pick up a pen and put it in your mouth,
take some time to think of where that pen has been, or where it will end up.

Cure Common Aliments with Raspberry Leaves

Raspberry tea leaves have been used to cure a wide variety of aliments. They include canker sores, cold sores and gingivitis. Believe it or not drinking raspberry tea leaves actually works.

My spouse recently had a canker sore, and drank raspberry tea made from raspberry tea leaves, I picked up from the local health store. About 24 hours latter, her problem went away.

Raspberries are native to North America and western Asia. It provides a delicious fruit, and in the summer, and the leaves can be made into a non caffeinated tea, that can have some interesting beneficial health effects.

The tea can be used to treat common aliments as cold sores, canker sores, and gingivitis. Some alternative practitioners recommend raspberry leaf tea to treat everything from morning sickness, derriere, to leg cramps and anaemia. According to studies, raspberry leaves contain antioxidants.

Tea leaves are inexpensive and can be found in a variety of health food and bulk food stores. Use about 5 grams (1 teaspoon) of leaves per 250 ml or one cup of hot water. Allow it to steep for 3 to 5 minutes before drinking.

Store tea leaves in an air tight container and store in a cool dark place. To dry raspberry leaves, spread them out on a backing sheet, leave them out to dry, or put it in the oven at 300 degrees.

This will be just enough heat to dry them out, not enough to burn them. Check them every five minutes and use your own judgement to tell when their ready. They should be dry, but not too dry.

Raspberry leaves have a wide variety of medicinal uses. Try them on a sore throat, or stomach cramps. Search the internet, talk with your physician, and find out what other people have to say about drinking tea made from raspberry leaves.

Is Cooking a Lost Art?

Packaged foods have become the norm. People think that buying a box from the store will save them time, and money. It may save you time but not necessarily money, and is not very healthy.

Packaged foods make it too easy for people to deal with a hectic life. Its just too easy to come home from work and pop something into the microwave. If you grew up with packaged foods you become accustomed to the sight, taste, and look of a frozen meal. When you move out on your own, you may not think twice about walking down the frozen food isles, with their variety of different prepared meals, made in a factory.

If you are one of those people. You may want to stop to think how you are harming yourself and your pocket book.

Everything ads up over time. The average frozen meal costs about $4 to $6. If you eat a frozen meal at lunch and then again one at dinner time, you will spend about $224 to $336 a month.

Aside from begin expensive, frozen meals are unhealthy, and really don't taste very good , if you make your own meals. Packaged foods don't contain many of the vitamins and nutrients, you get from a home cooked meal.

People think that it may take time to prepare a home cooked meal, but this is a common misrepresentation. You can prepare an average meal in about 30 minutes.

For inspiration take a look at "just in time", by Rachael Ray. Get ideas for making meals in as little as 15 minutes, or take your time and prepare 30 to 60 minute meals. These are delicious meal ideas you can do yourself at home.

To get idea's, start following the food network. Buy a binder, and fill it with interesting recipes that can be found on the internet. Think of what you want to make and just do it.

Before you walk down that isle, take the time to think. Walk around the grocery store, and stay out of the isles. Think about what you can do with the fresh vegetables, fruits and meat.

Find a recipe before you go shopping, and it will make it easier. After becoming familiar with the recipe, change it around, and make it your own.

Don't be afraid to try new vegetables and fruits you haven't seen before. Taste everything, and don't be afraid to experiment once you are comfortable preparing your own food, and most importantly, have fun.

Think about your pocket book and your taste buds when you go out shopping. Stay out of the processed food isles.

Is Anxiety a Cop Out?

Anxiety. Everyone has heard the term. It is becoming more common place, and accepted by physicians. It is a real condition; however, some people may be taking advantage of it to get out of working for a living, like everyone else.

Anxiety is a psychological condition characterized by feelings of worry, uneasiness and dread. It should not be confused with fear. Anxiety is described as more of a feeling of impending doom.

The condition is considered to be a normal reaction to stress. It may help and individual to be ready to cope, with a stressful situation. For some individuals it can become overwhelming, and it becomes classified as a disorder.

It is a condition covering many types of illness. These mental illness's only became accepted toward the end of the 19th century. Anxiety is defined by mental apprehension, physical tension, physical symptoms, and dissociative anxiety. Visit, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety_disorder, for more information.

According to and article written by, Kismet Baun with an Introduction By Dr. Taylor Alexander http://www.ontario.cmha.ca/about_mental_health.asp?cID=48249,until recently people diagnosed with mental illness were given little hope of every living a normal life. Today, there is hope for a full recovery.

Everyone feels anxious from time to time. Stressful situations like meeting obligations, deadlines, and dealing with life's small issues, such as keeping up with your house cleaning, making supper, doing your laundry and picking up the groceries, can make people feel nervous, and overwhelmed.

About 1 in 4 people experience anxiety some time in their lives; one, in ten currently have an anxiety order. Many people think they can get over these disorders by themselves. Usually, this is not the case. Fortunately, there are many treatments available.

Researchers don't know exactly what causes some people to have anxiety disorder, but they do no there are various causes involved. Some people may think that some situations are more dangerous than others, like flying, or riding a bus. There are others that may of had a bad experience, like being bitten by a dog, when they were a child, and fear that it will happen again.

More and more, is becoming known about anxiety disorder; however, it can be misunderstood and misdiagnosed. People could convince their doctors that they have anxiety attacks, and not be in the condition to hold a job.

Symptoms vary depending on the type of anxiety disorder. They could be feelings of panic, fear or uneasiness, uncontrollable, obsessive thoughts, nightmares, or ritualistic behaviours. These are just some of the many symptoms that may characterize this disorder.

Getting diagnosed with anxiety disorder can be a an arduous, uncertain process, but a new blood test can detect these disorders in hours, according to scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

After a review of the psychiatric history of over 450 patients, found by checking for a high level of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), a blood protein people release when under stress, they were able to diagnose these disorders about 90% of the time. There are some people that may be honestly trying to fake anxiety attacks; however, the majority of them may indeed be telling the truth about what their feeling. Since there is treatment available, it should not prevent an individual from working.

Before writing this blog, I was unconvinced that anxiety is real. After doing the research, and finding out that there may be a simple blood test , I am much more convinced that this is a real condition, and people are not faking it.

Always Finish What you Start

Always Finish What you Start

This is going to be a short blog. I haven't written any for a while.

Over the year I have started many projects, but allot of them have been left behind.

Left behind, like a child's toy underneath a piece of furniture. Leftovers of a forgotten time. Memories of the way things were.

Time does not stop. Its the way we manage our time that helps us get the things that we started done, and move forward. Some people are better at managing time than others.

I've never been very good at managing my time. There is always something that comes up. It could be somebody at the door, somebody calling me up, or the cleaning that is waiting to be done, and is calling out to me in the back of my mind. "Get off your ass and clean me.", or the grass needs to be cut, the bedroom needs to be painted, or the laundry needs to be done.

To finish what you started, you need to give whatever you started a half hour or hour each day, and no more. When that half hour or hour is over, that's it. It's time to move on.

While your working on it, you need to be completely focused on the task at hand, and not worry about the other things that may be in your mind. Don't give up and just keep going, over time you will finish.

In conclusion, I will take my own advice and finish what I started, and post this short blog.

Brockville, The Little Engine that Could

Brockville is a small town that is trying to grow into a medium sized city. To kick start the economy of the town, the town councillors attracted names like Wallmart, The Real Canadian Superstore, Starbucks, Future Shop, Reitmans, and other big names.

Over the last five years, I have seen empty spaces gradually get built over. Most of it uptown. Downtown is like a ghost town, business's come and they go. Storefronts are empty, and there is no place to go. Right now, there is only one grocery store, and a couple of pharmacies.

Encouragingly, there is a big multimillion dollar project happening, right now, called the Tall Ships. The town expects it to attract tourists, and help rejuvenate the downtown area.

We'll see. It is half completed now, and hopefully it encourages, continued growth in the downtown area.

Tall ships is a condo development on the Brockville Waterfront. On the main level there will be a 15,000-square-foot aquarium, a fresh water diving information centre, with a special mooring for tall ships.

The project will be built by Thomas Fuller Construction at a cost of 60 million dollars, and named The Maritime Discovery Centre.

Over the years, Brockville has experienced several plant closings, and the exodus of many downtown business, leaving residents with nowhere to do their shopping.

Using the proximity to Highway 401, and the cities parkway and waterfront, the town has been able to make a small turnaround.

Business's are coming into Brockville again; however, it is still stealing from the downtown area. Most of the business's that have opened in the last five years has been uptown, not downtown.

Hopefully, after the completion of the Tall Ships building, more business will open up downtown. What Brockville needs to do downtown is to encourage, building owners to lower their rents for their storefronts, and add more parking spaces.

Unless Brockville does more to keep business downtown, it will fizzle and die.

Are we Alone? The Answer is Comming

Are we alone? Scientists will soon have an answer, as technology advances, and changes in the universe occur.

Hundreds of planets are being discovered. Within our planet there are 8 planets that orbit the sun. Outside our solar system there are many other planets, scientists are just now becoming aware of. Since 1995 more than 500 planets have been found orbiting other stars.

One of the technologies responsible for assisting with the search for new planets is the Hubble space satellite.

In 2008, the Hubble space telescope hit its 100 000 orbit milestone. After being serviced in 1993, the telescope was restored to its intended quality. This opened the door to the universe for Nasa scientists.

It can take pictures that no other telescope in the world can. The telescope is not the first telescope in the world, but it is the largest and most accurate.

A mission launched in 2009, by Nasa to search for planets beyond our solar system, called exoplanets , recently paid off. The mission uses data analyzed, through the help of over 40 000 internet users, and planet enthusiasts, collected from NASA'S Kepler mission.

Two potential exoplanets were discovered by the community of internet users, according to a study, published September 22nd, 2011, in the Monthly Notices by the Royal Astronomical Society. For further information, see Amateur Scientists Join the Hunt for New Planets.

According to new research a planet 4 times larger than the earth is orbiting, just outside our solar system. It has been dubbed Planet X.

According to reports, it is said to be 40 times further than Pluto, with winters that last for a hundred years. There are claims that the planets orbit is causing catastrophic events on earth. For more information on Planet X, and how it affects us, visit, Planet X .

New discoveries are being made all the time, due to technology, technological advances, or changes happening within the solar system.

Whatever discoveries are made, we need to let the scientists at NASA time to work them out. Nothing is fact, unless it can be proven. They will not release anything to the public domain, unless they can prove it.

Random reports from people who may have seen or heard something, is nothing to get excited about, unless it can be backed up by solid evidence, and an official report from NASA.

If there is a major planetary event, an official broadcast will be put out, and action will be taken. In the United States, the television broadcasts will be taken off the air, and a message from the president of the United States will be aired. Other leaders will follow suit.

We can only trust that the scientists and government will work together to ensure our safety.
