How Soaring Electricity Costs Affect your Children

Location: Brockville, Ontario

The government is literally taking the food from your children's mouths. Every time you pay your electricity bill, your taking food from your children's mouths.

Experts agree that the cost of electricity in Ontario will rise over the
comming years. Many factors affect this rise in electricity costs. On average Ontario is abe to generate 25 000 megawatts of power. On many days, often due to hot weather (when people start using air conditioners), that demand exceeds 26 000 megawatts. This requires the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO to import from the neighbouring area's, such as the US.

After the closure of coal fired plants, on orders by the McGuinty government, Ontario's supply will be reduced by over 6000 megawatts. To compensate for this the Ontario government has implement a solar power program, to encourage people to go solar. This includes an incentive for entrepreneurs, developing alternative sources of energy, including a price of 80.2 cents kWh for solar energy.

It has also implemented time of use billing as of november 1st, 2011. If you do not have the Smart-Meter or if your hydro utility is not utilizing time-of-use billing, you are charged the same rate no matter of when you consume your electricity. There are two price tiers, the price depends on your electricity usage. In the summer the higher price is used if you consume more than 600 KWh of hydro in a given month. In winter, the higher price is charged when you consume more than 1000 Kwh.

This is not right. It will get bad enough that people won't be able to put food on the table to feed their families, just like home insurance rates.
Unless, your on a fixed contract with a company like Just Energy, you can't win, your cost of electricity will fluctuate throughout the day.

The government should not be making it impossible for us to survive. Constant increases in electricity costs will eventually cause undue hardship.

The people of Ontario need to revolt. We all need to sign a petition, and gather in Ottawa on mass, to force the government to lower electricty costs, and make it more fair.

To add fuel to the fire. If what I have written about, doesn't make you mad already, take this into account. According to my sources, the government has been subsidizing consumers across the borders. Ontario reportedly gave $1.5 million to Quebec and the U.S. to rid itself of power it didn't need.

In defense of this statement, McGuinty said it is important to remember that Ontario still makes a profit from selling to its neighbours, even if it has to pay to take it. McGinty added that Ontario was paid over $1 million to take Michigan's electricity last year.

If that's the case, then why are people in Ontario paying more for their electricity? According to the NDP, that while Ontario families are being financially drained by rising electricity bills, the Liberals are subsidizing consumers outside the province.

This sounds like a case of the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

NDP critic Peter Tabuns, encourages, McGuinty to close a loophole in the province's electricity rules that has forced Ontario to subsidize neighbouring hydro users, $1 billion over five years. This loophole is the so-called global adjustment on electricity bills (the government calls this a provincial benefit).

Its the difference between what the province pays for long-term electricity contracts, and the market price of electricity (This is about three to four cents per kilowatt hour.)

The global adjustment isn't charged on exported power, so
traders in North American energy markets are buying Ontario power for less than Ontario ratepayers, and then selling it to Quebec or the U.S. for much higher rates.

According to NDB researchers they collected the information from the website of the Independent Electricity System Operator, the agency charged with overseeing the Ontario's power grid.

Says, McGuinty, he won't make any changes to the global adjustment, and restated his point that Ontario is a net exporter of electricity. He stated that the province came out ahead by $240 million dollars.

This doesn't make sense. If there is not enough electricity to go around, why is the province selling it.

Feeding your family should be a priority, but our government doesn't think so. Someone needs to take out McGuinty, before he ruins us all. He is only in it to make himself look good. He doesn't care about the people of Ontario.
