Most people think that baking is a chore, and takes too much time. They'd rather buy bread from the store, then make it themselves. Nonsense!
Making bread is about the easiest thing you can do. It only takes about fifteen minutes to prepare, then you let it rise, preheat your oven, form your loves, and set the timer for 35 minutes. That's it. That's all there is really too it. If you follow some simple instructions, you can have almost perfect bread every time.

There are many books on baking, you can find many of them at your local bookstore. The majority of them are at your finger tips. Spend a few minutes surfing the web, and you will find thousands of recipes; however, it can be a challenge.
Bread makers have become popular, and many of the recipes will be designed for someone using a bread maker. There is nothing wrong with using a bread maker; however, you will find that the end result is never the same as if you did it by hand.
Doing it by hand yields more loaves. The consistency of the bread is different, and you can shape it to whatever size you desire.
I have been making bread for the last several years. Most of the time I never need to buy bread from the store. Making your own bread, saves money and provides you with more options.
You can make practically anything your heart desires, white bread, whole wheat bread, rye bread, whole wheat bread, gluten free bread, and the list just goes on. After you taste your own bread, you'll never want to buy bread from the store again. On average you will spend between $2 to $4 a loaf when you buy it from the store. You can make it for less then $1.
Here is a recipe for whole wheat bread I make quite frequently;
Ingredients
3 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
1/3 cup honey
5 cups bread flour
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1/3 cup honey
1 tablespoon salt
3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons butter, melted
Directions
In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and 1/3 cup honey. Add 5 cups white bread flour, and stir to combine. Let set for 30 minutes, or until big and bubbly.
Mix in 3 tablespoons melted butter, 1/3 cup honey, and salt. Stir in 2 cups whole wheat flour. Flour a flat surface and knead with whole wheat flour until not real sticky - just pulling away from the counter, but still sticky to touch. This may take an additional 2 to 4 cups of whole wheat flour. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to coat the surface of the dough. Cover with a dishtowel. Let rise in a warm place until doubled.
Punch down, and divide into 3 loaves. Place in greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pans, and allow to rise until dough has topped the pans by one inch.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 25 to 30 minutes; do not over bake. Lightly brush the tops of loaves with 2 tablespoons melted butter or margarine when done to prevent crust from getting hard. Cool completely

When you start making bread, you will find that it quickly become routine. I recommend making several loaves at a time, and putting them in your freezer. I go through about 3 large loaves a week. You can even make the dogh ahead of time, and form the loaves latter. Just put the doug into baggies, and leave them in the fridge.
After that first bite of your own bread, you will make the time to go the distance.
